Server Migration
There are two different methods to perform migration from Nesstar server 3.5 to 4.x or from 4.x to 4.x :
- Method A: Migrate using a zip file
- Method B: Migrate using a catalog ( where catalog is a folder )
Please note:
- If your data catalog is larger than 5 GB you need to use method B. Otherwise we recommend using method A.
- Source server and destination server need not be on the same system.
- It is neccessary that the destination server is running before import is performed.
- Migration does not transfer customisation done to webview.
- Migration does not transfer configuration settings.
- The iniated import if cancelled will simply stop the process mid way and exit.
- If you have custom roles in nesstar3.5 then you will have to create them in Nesstar4.0 before you initiate the import.
Method A - 3.5 to 4.x:
- Start the configuration tool on the 3.5 server and select “Customisation => Create customisation bundle”. Click on the “Clean” button.
- Once again select “Customisation => Create customisation bundle”
Use these settings:

Click on “Create”.
Chose "yes" to the question “Save a copy of the bundle?” and save the zip file where you like.
- Start the configuration tool on the 4.x server and select
“File => Import server from a zip file”. Select the zip file you created in step 2.
Method A - 4.x to 4.x:
- Start the configuration tool on the source server and select
“File => Export server to a zip file”.
- Start the configuration tool on the destination server and select
“File => Import server from a zip file”. Select the zip file you created in step 1.
Method B - 3.5 to 4.x:
- Start the configuration tool on the 3.5 server and select “Customisation => Create customisation bundle”. Click on the “Clean” button.
- Once again select “Customisation => Create customisation bundle”
Use these settings:

Click on “Create”.
Chose "No" to the question “Save a copy of the bundle?”
Note : The migration catalog is now created and is the folder \nesstar 3.5 server directory\Config\Bundles.
- Start the configuration tool on the 4.x server and select
“File => Import server from a catalog”. - Navigate to the \nesstar 3.5 server directory\config catalog.
- Click on the "bundles" catalog ( folder).
- Click on the "open" button.
Do note that in step 5 you are not looking for any file; it's the "bundles" catalog/folder that is the target. Once you've clicked on that, you click the Open-button in the File-chooser dialog.
In case the Nesstar 3.5 and Nesstar 4.0-server are located on different boxes, remember to copy the bundles-catalog from the 3.5-instance over to the 4.0 box first.
Method B - 4.x to 4.x:
- Start the configuration tool on the source server and select
“File => Export server to a catalog”.
- Start the configuration tool on the destination server and select
“File => Import server from a catalog”. Select the zip file you created in step 1.
