The Nesstar ACU Policies
The Nesstar Server Configuration Tool comes with the Access Control Policy Editor. Via the editor one can perform the following tasks :
- View and Select one of the 4 pre-installed policies
- Customize the pre-installed policies to meet one's security requirements
- Import new policies
- Apply required policy to the server.
Accessing the ACU editor
- Open the 'Configuration Tool'.
- Open the 'Customisation' menu.
- Select 'Access Control Policy Editor'.
Applying the pre-installed policies
On installation the Restricted Data - Default Policy is applied. When you open the ACU Editor this will be displayed. You can choose any other pre-installed policy and apply them as following:
- Open the "Configuration Tool".
- Open the "Customisation" menu.
- Select "Access Control Policy Editor".
- Open the menu "'File" - > "Predefined Policies" and then select one of the 4 policies.
- Click on "Save & Close" - this will save the selection but will not apply the selected policy to the server.
- Click "Ok" on the warning message.
- Click on "Apply Settings" on the main Configuration Tool window
- The server will restart and the selected policy will be applied.
Modifying the pre-installed policies
The pre-installated policies can be modified to meet your specific requirements. Before you make any modifications, it is worth noting that the default policies are not over-written and hence can be restored if needed.
- Open the "Configuration Tool".
- Open the "Customisation" menu.
- Select "Access Control Policy Editor".
- Open the menu "File" - > "Predefined Policies" and then select one of the 4 policies.
- Modify the policy to meet your needs.Tips : Change the POLICYTITLE to signify the changes and add comment lines too. Any error in the policy will appear in the panel under the editor window.
- Correct the errors if any.
- Optional: Open the menu "File" -> "Save As" and save the policy file. This will by default be saved under <server-home>/config/userdefined_policies folder and can be retrieved in the future.
- Click on "Save & Close" - this will save the selection but will not apply the selected policy to the server.
- Click "Ok" on the warning message.
- Click on "Apply Settings" on the main Configuration Tool window
- The server will restart and the selected policy will be applied.
Using custom ACU policies
The custom policies created externally or shared by others can be opened in the editor and applied to the server.
- Open the "Configuration Tool".
- Open the "Customisation" menu.
- Select "Access Control Policy Editor".
- Open the menu "File" - > "Open", browse and select the custom policy.
- The policy will be loaded, validated and any error in the policy will appear in the panel under the editor window.
- Correct the errors if any.
- Optional: Open the menu "File" -> "Save As" and save the policy file. This will by default be saved under <server-home>/config/userdefined_policies folder and can be retrieved in the future.
- Click on "Save & Close" - this will save the selection but will not apply the selected policy to the server.
- Click "Ok" on the warning message.
